The SDPA Annual Summer Dermatology Conference in San Diego buzzed with anticipation as a series of renowned experts took the stage to educate DermPAs on trends, best practices and other relevant topics during the June educational event. Amidst the 30th anniversary festivities, one topic drew our collective focus: the alarming rise of pediatric psoriasis. Lisa Swanson, MD, FAAD, a respected pediatric dermatologist, led a pivotal session on this issue remotely. As I listened, my thoughts drifted to the young patients I've treated, their skin a canvas of discomfort and frustration. Pediatric psoriasis cases are undeniably on the upswing, placing us PAs at the forefront of this emerging challenge. Dr. Swanson detailed the contributing factors: genetic predisposition, environmental triggers, and enhanced diagnostic techniques. Her words served as a stark reality check for many in the room.
