“Rock Star” Doc Discusses Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis in “Kiddos”

December 16, 2023

Pediatric Dermatologist Lisa Swanson, MD, focused on psoriasis and atopic dermatitis during a discussion with Dermcast.live host Hope Cook, PA-C.  Regarding psoriasis in children, she emphasized the necessity for proper action when encountering such cases, countering the misconception that children are exempt from psoriasis—highlighting its increasing prevalence from her observation of a monthly occurrence shifting to daily occurrences. She stressed its frequent misdiagnosis in general medicine and drew attention to the presence of similar comorbidities in children as in adults. Shifting to atopic dermatitis, she debunked misconceptions surrounding this condition and its association with food allergies, emphasizing that symptoms related to food allergies typically manifest within 30 minutes of consuming a particular item. She added her thoughts on “early baby life” and factors that contribute to atopic dermatitis currently being studied.
