Challenging Cases in Skin of Color

Omar Noor, MD, FAAD, discusses the unique challenges we face when diagnosing and treating skin conditions in patients with skin of color. He highlights the importance of understanding the differences in clinical presentation, cultural beliefs, and socioeconomic factors that can impact diagnosis and treatment.

At the conclusion of this podcast, participants will:

  • Identify common skin conditions that disproportionately affect patients with skin of color, such as keloids, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and pseudofolliculitis barbae, and learn about their pathophysiology and treatment options.
  • Understand the importance of patient-centered care and the need to tailor treatment plans to the unique needs and preferences of patients with skin of color.
  • Discuss the role of patient education and community outreach in promoting skin health and preventing skin conditions in patients with skin of color.
  • Understand the unique challenges in diagnosing and treating skin conditions in patients with skin of color, including differences in clinical presentation, cultural beliefs and practices, and socioeconomic factors.
