SDPA Fall 2018 - Live Blog

Jason Oberdick, MPA, PA-C, gave an insightful lecture, PA Pimple Popper – Tips for Lumps and Bumps, on day two of the 16th Annual Fall Conference. His advice for how to become more familiar with the treatment of cysts and lipomas is to be willing to treat these lesions, know your anatomy and limitations, and have confidence in your abilities.

Mr. Oberdick discussed the pathophysiology of the development of epidermoid cysts and pilar cysts, and what we know about the development of lipomas. He spoke on lesions that may resemble epidermoid cysts and lipomas, how to avoid surgical complications, and need for cautious approach as metastases, merkel cell carcinoma, and other lesions can mimic epidermoid cysts.

He concluded his lecture with a discussion on the use of a sterile environment or not for removal of these lesions and how to calculate the maximum dose of lidocaine.
